International Worker Network:
Unison Cambridgeshire Branch Migrant Worker Network; is designed to be a resource for Migrant Workers who are members of the Union. There will of course be information on the site which can be used by any migrant worker, please use any information carefully, and if in doubt consult the Branch or if you are not a member, a specialist migrant solicitor.
The Branch has experience with many Migrant Worker issues, we understand the sometimes delicate nature of the relationship that you have with your employer. We will never act without your permission, so all communication, be it conversation or written such as email, will be handled privately between the Branch and yourself.
A Note on the Resource Centre
Unison Cambridgeshire will be adding and updating the Resource Centre as new information is known. Please keep checking back as information could change daily.
Delegates at NDC pledge to support Migrant workers
Unison members at their National Delegate Conference heard motions on the exploitation of Migrant workers and the poor employment rights in the Care sector in general. Eastern Region are at the forefront putting a motion written by Rob Turner to the Local Government Conference, and at NDC, Eastern Region delegate Glen Carrington proposed a motion which again was unanimously carried. Both motions signify the Regions commitment to improving the situation the Overseas workers face on a daily basis. To read the National union statement, click the button

Unison Cambridgeshire are developing an Overseas Workers Charter, which will be presented to the County Council for agreement. The charter covers several areas, such as ethical recruitment, preventing exploitation and cementing worker's rights. Watch this space for copy of the 'Cambridgeshire' Charter and see its progress. The Branch already has several 'key' people onboard, and we hope that this charter will have a huge impact on Overseas workers and their families.
UPDATE! 19 November 2024: The Charter has now been lodged with our Council Senior Leaders. To contribute to the final version click Read the Charter There is still time to improve the document, please email Robert.turner@cambridgeshire.gov.uk with any suggestions. The Charter is likely to become known as The International Workers Charter, keeping it in-line with Cambridgeshire County Council terminology.
