Employment Rights Bill to get Royal Assent
The ER Bill has finally made it through the House of Lords. The Tory peers who were holding up its passage, have finally relented and agreed to the amendments put forward. It will now become law! There will be consultation phase and the necessary secondary legislation which enable the key changes in the Act to be implemented. NEU Update - TUC ruling in full
Earlier this year, UNISON, GMB and Unite, the three recognised school support staff unions, submitted a complaint to the TUC about the NEU. Our complaint focused on the NEU's continued activities organising school support staff, as well as decisions and speeches at NEU Conference. We argued that the NEU were in breach of the agreement reached between the NJC unions and the NEU in 2017, the TUC Dispute Committee's Final Award from 2023, and the principles for working together

Unison adds its name to statement on anti-migrant rhetoric.
Unison along with several other health care unions have released a statement - Keeping our communities safe from racism. The statement comes off the back of the recent 'Raise the colours' campaign, largely organised by Andrew Currien. Currien was a former key member of the English Defence League's leadership bodyguard team and also ran a 'security' firm for the far right party British First. Currien has previously been jailed for his part in a racist death, convicted 2009.

NEU wrong again on the recruitment of School Support Staff.
The NJC Unions, comprising of Unison, GMB and Unite, have once again won in a continuing dispute with the NEU over recruitment of School Support Staff. The NEU were fined in 2023 £180,000 for its ongoing recruitment of support staff, along with statements that it would represent them regarding their terms and conditions.
