North Herts and East Herts have decided to move their waste collection service to a 3 week cycle in an effort to save money. What happens elsewhere, usually comes to the people of Cambridgeshire eventually, especially when saving money is concerned.
North Herts Council says the move is "to enhance recycling opportunities for residents", calling it a "new and improved" service.
The service will involve three-weekly collections of:
Mixed paper and cardboard in one bin
All other dry recycling – glass, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, cans and foil – with a new addition of plastic bags and film in another bin
General (non-recyclable) waste
Before today, rubbish bins and recycling containers were collected on alternate weeks, while food waste was collected weekly.
Food waste will continue to be collected weekly, and garden waste will continue to be collected fortnightly for subscribers.
