When it comes to recognising the deplorable conditions some of our International Workers are enduring, Unison is at the front line in challenging poor employers and supporting members. This support took a huge step recently with the introduction of a Migrant Worker Charter.
The Charter lists conditions that those who sign up to it, will enforce and monitor. ''No employer should be worried about the charter'', said Branch Secretary Rob Turner, ''It's what they should be doing as a duty of care and as good employers''.
Salford Unison developed and launched the charter in September and already have the local authority as their first signatory. Cambridgeshire hope to be close on the heals, as support has already been gained froma few sources in the Council.
The Branch is drafting a template document, specific for Cambridgeshire, along with a 'Tracker' to monitor progress. The Branch will keep all members up to date through the website, so please check back.
