Unison along with several other health care unions have released a statement - Keeping our communities safe from racism. The statement comes off the back of the recent 'Raise the colours' campaign, largely organised by Andrew Currien. Currien was a former key member of the English Defence League's leadership bodyguard team and also ran a 'security' firm for the far right party British First. Currien has previously been jailed for his part in a racist death, convicted 2009.
The full statement can be read HERE

Unison Cambridgeshire Branch released there own statement on 22 September, its brief life was cut short as leaders at CCC requested its removal, as it was viewed that it received Council support. The statement had to be rewritten and released after Unison Regional approval of the content adhered to.
Unison Cambridgeshire stand by our view that the recent unrest is anti migrant, racist and is designed to cause unrest in our communities. It has nothing to do with patriotism and national pride as was being touted by Currien and others, as the reason for the campaign. To read the Branch release, visit our newsletter section.
The Branch fully supports the statement released on 9 October by the Council's Chief Exec. and viewable on Camweb. Unison's initial request on 18 September received a 'lukewarm' reception, so it was appreciated that the Anti Racism Steering Group (Unison are a member) also requested a similar statement on 22 September, which was received warmly and led to the aforementioned release of 9 October.
