''Significant failings'' with Council's SEND approach

The BBC are now reporting on the problems within our Sat/Send provision. Unison has raised these issues many times with the relevant service and those responsible. Issues were highlighted to us by concerned staff over 12 months ago. Unison presented these to Senior Leaders, with the response of promises of improvement in all areas.

Horrendous workloads, management oversight, lack of resources including personal to carry out the assessments, were all raised as certain points of failure. All of these led to Cambridgeshire having possibly the longest waiting time in the Country and hugely stressed staff.

Although steps were made to fund the shortfalls in staff, these took far too long to implement, and when it did happen, it was tokenism and did not in any way meet the real needs of the Team, who continued to be under enormous amounts of pressure to reduce waiting times and respond to parents. Both of which proved impossible to meet, not for the herculean efforts of those Team members remaining, but the lack of staff meant it was impossible to keep up with the increasing demand.
